Sunday was a nice sunny day with a cold but gentle breeze. Nine boats took to the water and raced over the course: A to starboard, F to port, B to port, 18 to starboard, L to starboard, three laps.
Frank Bamber, Mark's dad was doing the OOD duty in lieu of Mark. The Patrol Boat was launched but not manned as the wind was so gentle.
As the second lap progressed Frank decided that the race had to be shortened so he did the necessary signals and finished the race after two laps. The detail results for this and he other races are on the page Latest Racing Results.  Nick and Helen won the race on corrected time, Bill and Richard being first across the line.  Mark was second on corrected time.
The wind freshened a little and the second race was started over the course: D to starboard, E to starboard, H to starboard, L to starboard, again three laps.  This time Mark won with Nick and Helen second.

So Mark and Nick & Helen were equal first with 2 3/4 points each, Steve & Peter, Bill & Richard and Giles Ruel were in equal third place all with 8 points. Still wide open for tomorrow's concluding two races.

Monday, again a nice sunny day but the wind was blowing between force 4 and force 5.  James Eddington was OOD assisted by Bill Crichton, Bill hadn't got a crew for today's races. Ivan hadn't raced enough races on Sunday to qualify so he volunteered to do the Patrol Boat.  Giles Ruel had to word and it was too windy for Michael alone in the GP14 so he chickened out. Paul was joined by his regular crew Simon Fenna.  Giles Stothert didn't turn up, I think he was disappointed with his performance on Sunday in Richard's Phantom.
The course for the first race was D to starboard, E to starboard, A to port, H to starboard, L to starboard, three laps. Mark made a good start but was erroneously recalled enabling Nick and Helen to storm into the lead, storm being the appropriate word as it was getting quite hairy on the water. Nick and Helen continued to pull away until fate took a hand and they capsized on a run across the river towards A.  This allowed Mark to claw back his lead and he went on to win on corrected time, Nick and Helen coming second.
A cargo boat appeared at the end of the first race, Giles's work, luckily not interfering with either race.
The second race was over the course C to starboard, E to starboard, A to port, H to starboard, I to starboard, L to starboard, three laps. Alex Stothert lined up for this race, which he won quite easily, but this didn't count towards the trophy
Nick and Helen had to win this race to carry of the trophy Mark had already the low total of 3 1/2 points. Nick needed to win to be able to discard his 3 for third n the first race today and win by virtue of performing best in the last race.
It wasn't to be, Steve and Peter swept into the lead and Nick and Helen, risking all capsized again and then again, allowing Mark to finish ahead of them but Steve had already bagged the 3/4 points.

After the races Steve, as Rear Commodore Racing, announced the winner and Mark was presented the Trophy by his proud father, Frank. Frank was one of the first, if not the first, of the winners of the trophy way back in the seventies, crewed by his little boy Mark.

All agreed that it had been a thoroughly enjoyable weekend.
